Here is our entry for the Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge. This week the topic is “Scale”
This is maybe a strange choice to describe Joy. Its a processed picture of a very quick painting that I did one day whilst listening to some very joyous and uplifting music – so although it may not be the typical picture of joy, to me, it brings back that moment of true happiness when creating something spontaneous. I hope you forgive my indulgence!
I remember my grandmother baking the most delicious cakes, and she always used a wooden sieve to get the lumps out of the flour. They always tasted sublime.
Recently I acquired a vintage wooden sieve of my own
My cakes are yet to taste sublime!
At the bottom of my garden this year I have had some constant companions
These birds, although companiable, are also noisy , which is why the collective term for them is so appropriate.
A murmuration of starlings
Also known in some areas as a “chattering”
Ah Sunflower, weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the sun;
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the traveller’s journey is done;
Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale virgin shrouded in snow,
Arise from their graves, and aspire
Where my Sunflower wishes to go!
Ah, steeds, steeds, what steeds!
Has the whirlwind a home in your manes?
Is there a sensitive ear, alert as a flame, in your every fibre?
Hearing the familiar song from above, all in one accord you strain your bronze chests and, hooves barely touching the ground, turn into straight lines cleaving the air, and all inspired by God it rushes on!
~Nikolai V. Gogol, Dead Souls, 1842
